Countdown – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) discusses the watered-down Senate health care bill Visit: firedoglake.com

please Senator Sanders – VOTE AGST THIS BILL — THIS WILL ONLY INCREASE COSTS.
@MountAthos I think you’re over-simplifying a bit. True leftists want a system that actually functions to lower costs and strip out all the parasites in the system who do nothing but pad their wallets on the backs of the sick.
There’s more than one way to do that, but you have to implement several things together as a system to make them work. There were many bills in front of congress that were fantastic (look for Anthony Weiner) but they’ve all been killed or systematically dismantled.
Sanders is incorrect about the “odious” practice. The insurance company will simply triple your premiums, ask you to sort through a mile of red tape, or simply say “I’m sorry, we don’t provide specialists in that field.”
@MountAthos
Nope didn’t know that.
Guess I’ll have to look more into that.
@greyflcn
Did you know that switzerland DOES allow banning for pre-existing conditions? The only exception is for the most BASIC plan, the one that is subsidized for the poor. The insurance companies are free to deny any person any other policy for pre-existing conditions.
@MountAthos
Now for instance, if we could get full implementation of a Switzerland style system
Which is almost entirely private
But with a consumer mandate, and banning pre-existing conditions.
As well as a highly regulated barebone basic plan, that must be offered by private insurers if they want to offer any plan.
I’d be perfectly fine with that.
@MountAthos
In short, if you’re going to have a strong mandate on supply, you need a strong mandate on demand.
But having a strong mandate on only one side is wrong.
@Plutonwolf
I’m not doubting what you are saying, but I’d like to hear you explain a little more why you think that?
I remember when people here were ridiculing conservatives for being upset about having insurance coverage payments mandated by the government.
It’s weird seeing the Leftists now coming to the same position they once ridiculed.
Make your calls and let them know that a bill that has a mandate without giving us an affordable option is not acceptable.
If you don’t have the phone numbers you can find them on my page.
We also need to remember those who have stood in the way of real reform (all republicans, a handful of dems and Lieberman) and vote accordingly in the future.
I agree with you here Pluton
The world is full of morons and slaves to desire who can be separated from their money.
@classic Heh, not in the least, they all act in the Male pattern. Look at Hillary. Admired because she is “tough”. Yet she gets scorned for being to “butch” by the Foxian hordes. Matrilinealism has been suppressed at every turn in society from the burning of the midwives as witches to the devolvement of inheritability on the oldest son. At every opportunity, male dominance is asserted and we all pay like hell for this. There is no balance and the systems remain unstable always.
Bernie is a breath of fresh air. Medicare for all is exactly what we ultimately need.
@Pluton, what are you a mysoginist? What about the Czarinas, Queens, Empresses…I know I know Alpha females……Must confess I have no idea of what that shuld be! LMAO
@classical But it IS Alpha Male behavior! Kings, Potentates, Dictators, there is always this steady creep to power centralization. And in most humans, there is a desire for someone else to make the hard decisions for them. Co-operation is HARD, to do it right takes a lot of thinking, give and go and respect. Dictatorialism in all of its flavors is an easy default to slip into.
Sorry, I am pissed as hell right now. I thought we were smarter than this. Obviously not I see.
@ Pluton Alpha males my BUTT….What we had throughout centuries in Europe were Monarchies trying and constantly screwing up our asses..(sorry not feeling very much like a lady here) till we got tired and decide to foght back…..what we had before is very similar of what ou have presently in your country…Andit goes WAY back than 17th Century…LMAO
But, I have watched a steady erosion of workers rights slowly creeping over Europe due to the influx of Eastern European workers and Islamic immigrants. The voters are now following in our stupid footsteps as they trade off rights for security. It is basic human nature to desire security over freedom as long as the erosion of rights remains subtle but steady. Unless man reaches a new consciousness, things will get very nasty in the next decade or so…..maybe even sooner. I hope not, but…
@classicallady Basically all human cultures have been a product of what you cite, it is just that America was fresh with it and it hadn’t the time to submerge into the back ground, But truly, since about 1600 BC, the world has been truly dominated by Alpha Male cultures who ALWAYS set up paradigms where-in their seed is guaranteed an edge over others. Male nature is to dominate, feminine is to nurture…on average. All our cultures now run this way, America is just more obvious.
Like we say: America was built on GREED & Lawyers = DISASTER
Time to become a shark. The idea that honest work and diligence will give you a decent life in the U S A has died. Become a predator before you become prey. I have tried all of my 54 years to be a decent human being and this is the payoff? The compact has been broken and all bets are truly off.
don’t do it Bernie.
I mean it, man… don’t do it.
It is over folks,
Here’s The raw deal:
The “Insurance & Drug Company Profit enhancement Act of 2009 ” WILL COME TO PASS
Sanders has it wrong. The bill forces 30 million people who can’t afford health care to pay every penny they have to health insurance companies until they go bankrupt. That is not covering them. That is killing them. The bill forces drug companies to offer coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, but with the option of raising their costs 50%, which means only rice peope with pre-existing conditions will be able to afford to be covered. This will also bankrupt more poor people.
Medicare for ALL is the only acceptable answer. I’m not in favor of extending this ho-hum any further. If you can throw endless amounts of money slaughtering people on the other side of the world, you can afford to provide at least basic healthcare to the people who make the United States exist. How much does a bomb dropped “accidentally” on a wedding party in Afghanistan cost? How many people could that money have helped people, rather than killing them?
